Ostaizka is a postdoctoral researcher at the GLOBE Institute at the University of Copenhagen. She completed her PhD in 2014 at the University of the Basque Country, studying the fishing behaviour of long-fingered bats using bat detectors and high-speed video cameras. The first years of her research career have focused on sensorial and behavioural ecology of bats. During her years as a post-doctoral researcher in Denmark, she has further broadened her research activity into molecular biology and microbiology. She has worked on molecular dietary analyses of bats, focusing on the importance of bats as biological pest suppressors. Her actual research interest is integrating genomic and metagenomic tools with behavioural research to understand the role of gut microorganisms in the behavioural ecology of vertebrates.
