CIBIO/InBIO, Campus Agrário de Vairão, Rua Padre Armando Quintas, Portugal, Vairão

Hugo is the Principal Investigator of the Bat Ecology research group at CIBIO (Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources) of the University of Porto, Portugal. His present interests have a strong emphasis on the application of research to the conservation of species, while using and combining state of the art methods in species distribution modelling, molecular analyses, landscape connectivity and bioacoustics. Specifically, his main lines of research are: i) the population effects of climate change on bat species; ii) the effects of human activities on bat populations, particularly in relation to wind farms, reservoirs, bridges and intensive forestry practices; and iii) using faecal metagenomics to understand pest control and general ecosystem services provided by bats.
